Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Saud Al-Faisal was received in Paris today by President of France Jacques Chirac, with whom he discussed the current situation in Iraq. Following the meeting, Prince Saud said he had briefed the President on Saudi Arabia's assessment of the situation and what should be done to avoid a disaster of immense proportions in the region, adding that the Kingdom still hopes for a solution that avoids any division of Iraq and maintains the integrity of its territories. Prince Saud also held talks with his French counterpart Dominique de Villepin. In a joint press conference, he reiterated that the diplomatic approach is still the best for finding a solution to the Iraqi crisis. It is self-evident, he said, that achieving our goals through peace is far better than achieving them through war. To a question on the possibility of sending Iraqi President Saddam Hussein into exile, Prince Saud said Saudi Arabia does not interfere in the domestic affairs of other countries.
