Prince Saud at Arab foreign ministers meeting in Cairo

Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Saud Al-Faisal arrived in Cairo today for the 119th meeting of foreign ministers of the League of Arab States. In addition to the 16 foreign ministers and 6 other representatives, there were 11 observers, from regional organizations as well as a number of states. Speaking at a press conference afterwards, Prince Saud referred to the meeting's final communiqué as rejecting military action and occupation and calling for an immediate halt of hostilities; expressed the hope that the call issued by the Arab foreign ministers would meet the aspirations of the Iraqi people; and declared: "Following what we have seen, particularly the damage which the war might cause, we think that it is time to stop this tragedy and enter into a peaceful solution in accordance with the United Nations."
