Saudi Arabia condemns Israel's decision to expel President Arafat

Saudi Arabia has issued a statement condemning the decision of the Israeli government to "expel" from Palestinian territories President of the Palestinian National Authority Yasser Arafat. This decision, it declared, can only lead to the total collapse of the Middle East peace process, and constitutes a dangerous escalation in the region, violating international law and United Nations resolutions. The Kingdom urges the quartet committee and the international community to exert immediate and effective efforts to force Israel to reverse this mistaken decision, in order to prevent its implementation from leading to the destruction of international efforts to establish a just and comprehensive peace in the region.

Meanwhile, the Jeddah-based Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) also condemned the Israeli government's decision, describing it as a threat to the Middle East peace process that could push the entire region into a cycle of violence that would definitely derail the roadmap.
