Crown Prince Abdullah receives education minister

Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the National Guard Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz received in Jeddah today Minister of Education Dr. Muhammad Al-Rasheed, who briefed him on the situation at the beginning of the new academic year in the Kingdom's schools. Currently, there are about 415,000 teachers and 4.8 million students.

Crown Prince Abdullah, in reference to the recent terrorist attacks in the Kingdom, commented that the education system seems to suffer from a lack in educating children about patriotism; and that it seems there is no interest in instructing new generations on correct ethics. Extremist approaches, he said, must be avoided. The Kingdom is targeted because it is and will remain, God willing, the heart of Islam. He told his listeners that critics point to mistakes in the Kingdom's political, financial, and economic as well as education systems; and Saudis must acknowledge that there are some mistakes, as there are everywhere in the world, but Saudi Arabia has been working on serious reforms.
