Addressing today's inaugural session, Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani called for pressure to be put on Israel to honor its pledges pertaining to the 'Roadmap', and withdraw from the occupied Golan Heights and the Lebanese territories. He urged Islamic solidarity on all levels, including culture and information. On Iraq, he welcomed the transitional government as paving the way for restoration of authority to the Iraqis. Prime Minister of Malaysia Mahathir Mohammed called for closing Muslim ranks, and King Mohammed VI of Morocco urged Muslim countries to confront the challenges facing them.
