Prince Salman attends seminar on water

Governor of Riyadh Province Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz attended a seminar in Riyadh today, organized by the Ministries of Water and Higher Education, on the topic of the challenges of water resources that face mankind. Also present were Minister of Water Dr. Ghazi Al-Qusaibi, Minister of Agriculture Dr. Abdulaziz bin Muammar, and Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Dr. Ali Al-Namlah. Addressing the seminar's inaugural session, Prince Salman referred to Saudi Arabia's positive contribution to international efforts aimed at solving the problem of water, and commented on the Kingdom's over 1,200 water projects and 28 water desalination stations as well as the establishment of an independent ministry for water. Dr. Al-Qusaibi stressed the importance for the world of rationalizing water consumption, commenting that lack of water and polluted supplies endanger the lives of millions of people. The first session will review ways of rationalizing water consumption, the role of water in the growth of civilizations, and the reasons for the global water crises. The second session will cover hydrological information, its role in evaluation of the water situation, and the role of water in agricultural development.
