Second Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector-General Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz, at a press conference in Riyadh yesterday following his meeting with France's defense minister Michele Alliot-Marie, expressed the hope that the Iraqi issue can be settled without resorting to war. The Kingdom's policy on Iraq, he said, is well-known.

On the issue of prisoners of war in Iraq, Prince Sultan confirmed that there are some Saudis among the Kuwaiti POWs, but no information on them had been received from Baghdad.
Commenting on the Kingdom's educational policy, Prince Sultan stated that this is a matter related to sovereignty. The Kingdom is an Arab and Muslim country, adhering to the teachings of the Holy Qur'an and the Sunnah (the saying of the Prophet) and following the Islamic school of thought as preached by Shaikh Ahmed bin Hanbal.
