Prince Salman defends operations of Saudi charities

Governor of Riyadh Province Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz, in a statement in today's 'Okaz' daily, has categorically rejected charges that Saudi charitable societies back terrorism, commenting that the Kingdom cannot be held responsible if certain humanitarian works have been used for evil purposes. The Saudi people, he said, only wish to assist their fellow Arabs and Muslims in every way possible; at the same time, the Kingdom has never supported terrorism and can never be involved in any act that defames Islam. Asked specifically about an Israeli newspaper report accusing certain Saudi ministers of supporting terrorism because they chair committees that give aid to Palestinians, he commented: "It is wrong to view extending support to Palestinians in need as a form of supporting terrorism."
