King Fahd receives French President

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdulaziz received in Riyadh yesterday President of France Jacques Chirac, who left last night after a one-day state visit to the Kingdom. Their talks focused on the international anti-terrorism efforts and the right of Palestinians to their independent state as well as aspects of bilateral cooperation. Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the National Guard Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz also received the French President, and discussed with him the need to ensure stability and security in the Middle East region. At a press conference after the meetings, President Chirac called for urgent steps to accelerate a political solution in Afghanistan, pointing out that the main goal of the international forces is to exterminate terrorism and Al-Qaeda, and expressing support of the Saudi-Pakistani plan for an interim government in Kabul with representatives of all Afghan ethnic, tribal and factional groups.
