Kingdom stresses importance of e-commerce

Dr. Bandar bin Salman bin Muhammad Al-Saud, who is an Advisor at the Crown Prince's Court, addressed a conference in Tunis yesterday on 'E-commerce: the Internet, Law, and Arbitration'. He stressed the Saudi leadership's special interest in this field, pointing out that a permanent committee was set up two years ago to issue legislative regulations for this sector and ensure that contemporary developments do not run counter to Islamic Shari'ah [Law].  The committee consists of representatives from the ministries of commerce; finance and national economy; and post, telephones and telegraphs; plus the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency SAMA) and the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST). One of its accomplishments, he said, is the first Saudi conference and exhibition of e-commerce scheduled for May 6-10 in Riyadh, under the auspices of Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the National Guard Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz.
