SAMA Governor attends UN meeting on poverty

Governor of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA) Hamad Al-Sayyari today attended a meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Council at the UN headquarters in New York, which addressed issues critical to reducing poverty and promoting international financial stability.  Secretary-General Kofi Annan addressed the Council on the issue of the slowing global economy and its effect on the ability to sustain economic growth enough to reduce the extent of world poverty. Debt relief was a major focus of the meeting. The council reiterated its goal of halving the number of people living in poverty by the year 2015.
