Council of ministers meeting

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdulaziz today chaired the regular weekly session of the Council of Ministers and expressed wishes for the success of the 3rd Consultative Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) being held in Manama, Bahrain. This Summit, he said, is a distinguished example of brotherly meetings for the benefit of the people of the Gulf, dealing with international developments vis-à-vis the region and coordinating the GCC states' position.

King Fahd then briefed the cabinet on the message from President of the Republic of Korea Kim Dae-jung that was recently delivered to him by Korean Prime Minister Lee Han-dong. He praised the depth of the relations between the two Asian countries, and the endeavors the Kingdom has been making to build up such friendships worldwide based on mutual respect and common interests, aimed at bringing about global peace and stability and promoting issues of concern to Arab and Islamic nations, chief among them that of the Palestinian cause, together with the Syrian Golan Heights and southern Lebanon.
Turning to domestic matters, the cabinet passed a number of resolutions, including authorization for the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance or his deputy to sign a draft agreement on cooperation among the ministries of endowments and Islamic affairs of Muslim countries in the field of religious call and orientation, including the introduction of Islam to others; authorization for the Minister of Foreign Affairs or his deputy to discuss and sign a general draft agreement on economic, commercial, investment, technical, cultural, sports and youth fields with the Kingdom of Sweden; and authorization for the Minister of Higher Education or his deputy to discuss with Iran a draft memorandum of cooperation between the Ministry and the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology.
