Communications minister talks about railway expansion

Minister of Communications Dr. Nasir Al-Salloum, who is in Cairo for the 150th anniversary of the railway system in Egypt, has spoken of the Kingdom's plans to build two main rail expansions to link the country's east with its west through Riyadh, which will also be connected to the northwest. These lines, he explained, will in essence be international, because freight from the Saudi northwest can then be transported, for example, to the Far East. He expressed optimism that eventually Riyadh will be linked by rail with Europe. There is also, he said, a well-defined plan to link all Saudi cities by rail, noting that the private sector is investing in the expansion of the Kingdom's railway network.
