GCC Summit scheduled for December 30-31 in Oman

It was announced yesterday that the 22nd Summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) will be held in Muscat, Oman on December 30-31, 2001. Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Saud Al-Faisal, in Oman for preparatory meetings for the Summit, declared on his arrival that the issue of Afghanistan would be discussed, and the Saudi-Pakistani Initiative presented, and commented that the people of the Gulf have high hopes for the Summit to strengthen the links among the brotherly member countries. In reply to a question on the U.S. media campaign attacking the Kingdom and distorting the image of Islam, Prince Saud remarked: "In truth, I have not found any U.S. linking of terrorism and Islam", pointing out that the U.S. President himself had denied any such linkage and adding: "As for media attacks, we shall pay no attention to them as long we are going forward in the right direction.''
