Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ali bin Ibrahim Alnaimi has announced that Saudi Aramco discovered additional great quantities of gas in the area of Almazaleej, about 150 kilometers south east of Riyadh. The new well (Alghazal 4) gushed out gas at a rate of 21.9 million regular cubic feet per day and 3,470 barrels of condensing materials per day, noting that pressure at the well's opening was 1,370 pounds per square inch.

Minister Alnaimi explained the well was first dug on September 13, 2001 and was tested at a depth of 13,758 feet on the December 1, 2001. He added that initial estimates indicated the rise of non-accompanied gas reserves in the new field will double.
