The National Guard has announced that the 16th annual National Festival of Culture and Heritage will open at Jenadriyah, near Riyadh, on Wednesday, January 17, 2001. The opening ceremonies for Jenadriyah 1421 will include, in addition to the customary camel race, the honoring of Saudi businessmen who have distinguished themselves in contributions to the national economy. In the evening will be an operetta. This year, the operetta will be a joint Gulf effort, under the artistic coordination of Muhammad Shafiq, with lyrics by Misaid Al-Rashidi and music by Rabih Saqr. The operetta will feature Muhammad Al-Mazim of the United Arab Emirates, Ahmad Al-Jomairi of Bahrain, Nasir Salih of Qatar, Muhammad Al-Mosbah of Kuwait and Salim bin Ali of Oman, as well as Saudi singers Muhammad Abdo, Abdulmajeed Abdullah and Rabih Saqr.
Cultural activities will begin on the Thursday, January 18, and the special events for women will commence on Saturday, January 27.
