Saudi hospital files new suit against tobacco companies

The King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh has filed a new suit against tobacco companies and manufacturers of nargilah or water pipes and their agents in the Kingdom, seeking compensation for the cost of medical treatment borne by the hospital in the treatment of victims of smoking. The hospital's executive director Dr. Anwar Al-Jabarti stated that an undisclosed U.S. tobacco company had negotiated with him concerning settlement in the amount of SR 10 billion [U.S. $ 2.7 billion] but that he had turned down the offer, rejecting any settlement of the issue outside the courts.
