Kingdom's Internet services expanding

Since the Internet was introduced to the Kingdom last year, the number of subscribers has grown by more than 160 percent. In a recent seminar, Minister of Commerce Osama Faqih reported that Saudi Arabia is now in the top five Arab countries in terms of Internet growth. Plans are underway by the Saudi Telecommunications Company (STC) to triple the number of subscribers this year, by increasing the number of telephone lines available. In January, Lucent Technologies was awarded a U.S. $35 million contract for this purpose.
