Saudi Arabia has announced its support for the recent positive developments in Somalia, notably the
formation of a transitional national assembly and a legislative council, and the election of their leaders,
adding that the Kingdom had been closely following the outcome of the reconciliation conference held in
Djibouti. The Kingdom's statement called on the other Somali factions, which had distanced themselves,
to return for the sake of Somalia's national unity, and paid tribute to the role of Djibouti President Ismail
Omar Guellah for his positive initiative leading to the successful and amicable restoration of vital political
institutions in Somalia. Saudi Arabia expressed the hope that Somalia would soon resume its role in the
Arab, Islamic and international arenas, contributing to the global community as an element of security and
stability in the region.
