In its regular weekly session today, the Council of Ministers accorded final approval to the Seventh
Five-Year Development Plan, currently running from 2000 to 2004. On the occasion, the Ministry of Planning issued a statement saying that the plan confirms the continued
process of comprehensive development planning by which the Kingdom has made distinct achievements in
all socio-economic areas. The statement also said that the plan reflects a concern to attain the aspirations
of Saudi citizens, and develop their potential within the framework of a secure and stable society where
God's Shariah [Law] is enforced. It noted that guided by these overriding principles, the seventh plan lays
special emphasis on developing human resources, increasing employment opportunities, and striving to
provide basic services, including education, health and social welfare.
