Kingdom gains silver at Sydney Olympics

Saudi Arabia gained its first silver medal at the Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia when runner Hadi

Souan Somayli came in second in the 400-meter hurdle race in 47.53 seconds. Hadi, who is 24 years old,

and a physical education teacher in Jeddah, is Saudi champion in the 110 and 400 meter hurdles. Since

1994, he has won a number of gold medals in the annual Arab track and field championships.
