Crown Prince Abdullah donates rare books to new library

Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the National Guard, has donated to the King Abdul Aziz Public Library in Riyadh a collection of rare documents and books about King Abdul Aziz Al-Saud and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  The collection is from the personal library of American orientalist George Reinates, and comprises a number of maps, some 2,165 rare documents (1,035 in Arabic and 1,130 in English), and 4,358 books (1,244 in Arabic and 3,114 in other languages).  These reflect the main political, historical and geographical events in the Kingdom and the Arabian Gulf during Mr. Reinates' stay in the area, from 1945 to 1962.  A contemporary of the late King Abdul Aziz, he is knowledgeable about the Second World War, the establishment of the League of Arab States, the border demarcations on the Arabian Peninsula, and the start of oil production in the Kingdom and the Gulf.
