Date Palm Trees Pollinated

Date-growers in Qassim Province are busy getting rid of the thorns on the branches of their palm trees in preparation for the pollination process, during which they take pollen from male palm trees and lay it on the female trees. Dates, which are known to have great medicinal value, and are rich in sugar and in minerals that are an important source of energy for the human body, are especially recommended for pregnant women. The Department of Statistics at the Ministry of Agriculture and Water reports that the number of palm trees in the Kingdom is now over 18 million, and that the current annual production of dates is around 0.5 million tons, comprising some 450 different kinds of dates.
