The Supreme Judicial Council has called on Muslims in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to look for the crescent of the lunar month of Dhu Al-Hajjah on the evening of Tuesday, March 16, 1999; and if not sighted, Wednesday, March 17, 1999. Anyone sighting the crescent is to report to the nearest court for registration of their witness.

Meanwhile, in accordance with the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd Ibn Abdul Aziz and the recommendations of the Senior Ulema (Muslim scholars), the Ministry of the Interior draws attention to the importance of adherence to statements issued by concerned authorities concerning the organization of Saudi pilgrims, and makes it clear that there will be no exceptions, and that penalties will be imposed on the owner of any vehicle carrying persons who do not hold the required Hajj cards.
