HAZMAT Treatment Centers To Be Set Up In Kingdom

The Meteorological and Environmental Protection Agency (MEPA) has approved the establishment of five treatment centers for hazardous medical waste materials in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Qasim, and Abha. These centers, which will be available to private as well as public medical facilities, will each have the capacity to treat 24 tons of waste per day. Environmental awareness has been growing in all the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and strenuous efforts are being made to solve the problem of waste which has traditionally been either buried or burned.
