Foreign Minister Prince Saud visits Iran

Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Saud Al-Faisal was received in Tehran today by President of Iran Mohammed Khatami, with whom he reviewed bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest. Tehran Radio quoted President Khatami as saying that enhancing relations between the two countries would serve their mutual interests and also benefit the Muslim world. He praised the Kingdom's role in the recent OPEC agreements, and went on to say that cooperation among the member states of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) could help end the crisis in Kosovo, which he called "a calamity".

On arrival at Tehran International Airport yesterday, Prince Saud Al-Faisal stated that his visit came as part of continuing efforts by the two countries to promote coordination in positions on regional and international issues which concern the two sides and the Islamic world. Commenting on the Balkan crisis, he urged the international community to assume its responsibility in bringing an end to the killings and displacements in Kosovo.
