Saudi Arabia started a further round of talks in Geneva today to promote the Kingdom’s application to join the World Trade Organization (WTO). Minister of Finance and National Economy Ibrahim Al-Assaf hopes these talks will result in full Saudi membership in WTO in the near future. As a member of WTO, the Kingdom can take part in laying down international trade policies, and can defend its interests. Negotiations have been going on for four years, and five rounds of bilateral or multilateral talks have been held so far. Another round of multilateral talks is scheduled for November of this year, in Seattle, USA, to review key issues related to trade and development.
