Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) yesterday reported a net profit of SR 1.02
billion (U.S. $ 0.27 billion) in the first nine months of 1999. Profits during the third
quarter had improved over those of the second quarter, since prices for key SABIC products
rose with the recovery of Asian and other markets and the improvement in oil prices. Meanwhile, the seventh industrial conference of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) began
today in Doha, Qatar, under the slogan "National Manpower and Its Role in Industrial
