On the occasion of the start of the fourth national polio vaccination campaign Minister of Health Dr. Osama Abdelmajeed Shobokshi today reiterated the Saudi government's plans to eradicate poliomyelitis by the year 2000, adding that the Kingdom has already made great strides towards achieving this. Dr. Shobokshi pointed out that the current campaign is being launched in collaboration with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, which groups Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain, in addition to Saudi Arabia. The campaign, which aims at supporting the basic vaccination programs that already exist, will be carried out in two stages. The first will start on Saturday, October 31, 1998, for a period of three days, and the second will be from December 5 through 7. Dr. Shobokshi urged all citizens and residents to cooperate with the field teams carrying out the campaign in order to make it a success.
