Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz, Second Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector-General, met in Jeddah yesterday with visiting U.S. Secretary of Defense William Cohen.  During the meeting, which was attended by Deputy Minister of Defense and Aviation Prince Abdulrahman Ibn Abdul Aziz, Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal, King Fahd's Special Advisor Ibrahim Al-Anqari, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces General Salih Al-Muhayya, and a number of other officials, as well as U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom Wyche Fowler, issues of mutual interest were discussed, including recent developments in the Arabian Gulf region.

In response to a question concerning the Iraqi crisis that was raised in a press conference following the meeting, Prince Sultan stated: "We support reaching a peaceful settlement and we advocate this."
For his part, Secretary Cohen said that the two sides both support reaching a peaceful settlement, and hoped that Iraqi President Saddam Hussein will behave in a reasonable manner and let the international inspection committee carry out its mission, adding that if he does not, he will be held responsible for the consequences.
