Accident at Mina during 1418 Hajj

The Hajj Security headquarters in Makkah reports that at about 12:40 p.m. local time today, while thousands of pilgrims were heading towards the location for the ritual of stoning Satan in the area of Mina, a serious stampede occurred, causing a number of pilgrims to lose their balance and to be trampled underfoot. The security patrols who were on the scene in considerable numbers exerted exceptional efforts to rescue those who had fallen, but on account of the huge flow of pilgrims, preliminary estimates at the time of this report reveal that 107 of them died. The actual figure of those who died as a result of this stampede will be announced promptly as soon as the victims are identified. May God have mercy on their souls.
