King Fahd studies plea from families of British nurses

Saudi Ambassador to the United Kingdom Dr. Ghazi Al-Gosaibi announced today that Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd Ibn Abdul Aziz is studying with a view to mercy and kindness, a petition pleading for clemency from the families of the two British nurses currently serving prison sentences in Saudi Arabia after having been found guilty of murdering an Australian colleague in 1996.   He said that the nurses' relatives expressed belief that the judicial authorities had done their job fairly, stated their appreciation and respect for Islam and Shari'ah Law, paid tribute to the cooperation of the Saudi authorities in facilitating constant contact with the two jailed women, and acknowledged that the case had been forwarded to the King as the only one who has the right to grant amnesty.   The private obligations between those convicted and the family of their victim have already been settled in accordance with Shari'ah Law.
