Crown Prince lays foundation stone of new university

Crown Prince Abdullah Ibn Abdul Aziz, Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the National Guard, today laid the foundation stone for new construction at the branch of King Saud University in Abha, and announced that it will be known as King Khalid Ibn Abdul Aziz University.   Crown Prince Abdullah is on an extended visit to Asir Province, where he has been patronizing the inauguration of a number of projects, in road construction and water supply as well as in education and information media.

Speaking at a reception on Monday held in his honor by the citizens of Asir Province, the Crown Prince highlighted the great achievements accomplished by King Abdul Aziz, the founder of the modern Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in successfully unifying the country under the banner of Islam, and declared:  "I would like to make it clear that the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques has been continuously revising its domestic and foreign policy so as to ensure excellent service to the country and the citizens", adding that since justice and moderation are the characteristics of civilized nations, "the Kingdom does not tolerate extremism and at the same time is fully aware of how to deal with the contemporary world."
Asir Province has an area of more than 80,000 square kilometers, incorporates 11 governorates with more than 5,000 centers of habitation.  The population is estimated at about 1.7 million.
