The Consultative Council (Majlis Al-Shura) resumed its meetings yesterday after its summer recess. The tenth meeting of the Shura Council's second year of its second session was presided over by Chairman Sheikh Muhammad Ibrahim Ibn Jubeir, and attended by Minister of Industry and Electricity Dr. Hashem Ibn Abdu Yamani, Minister of Finance and National Economy Dr. Ibrahim Al-Assaf, and Minister of Commerce Osama Ibn Jaafar Faqih. The three ministers were there to brief the council prior to their discussion on the performance of the power sector and how to restructure it taking into consideration the rising population as well as economic and agricultural development.
In a continuation of the discussion today, a team of technicians and experts from the Ministry of Industry and Electricity briefed the council on the importance of this restructuring. The discussion then focused on the capacity of the new expansion project and the extent of its capability to cover industrial and agricultural sectors as well as private residences. The decision was reached to continue collecting information on the issue for further discussion.
