Saudi Arabia's industrial development has received impetus and strength through its 2,598 productive factories, spread over eight industrial cities throughout the country, which have enabled the Kingdom to manufacture a number of products formerly imported, and in some cases, to export them. A total of SR 190.67 billion (U.S. $ 50.85 billion) has been invested in these factories, which employ more than 240,000 workers. Each year, Saudi Arabia exports petrochemicals worth SR 15 billion (U.S. $ 4.0 billion), but in addition, the annual export of other industrial products amounts to SR 8 billion (U.S. $ 2.13 billion).
