It was announced today that the first textile mill in the Kingdom will start operations by early 1999, supplying the Gulf region and neighboring Arab countries with cloth primarily for the production of abayas and thobes.  The project, which is a joint venture with a consortium of Japanese companies, is estimated to cost about SR 172.5 million (U.S. $ 46 million).
