Plans outlined for new community colleges

Rector of Dhahran's King Fahd University for Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) Dr. Abdul Aziz Ibn Abdullah Al-Dakheel today announced that a Community College affiliated to KFUPM will open in Hail next academic year.   This move comes within the framework of a plan for two other similar facilities, one in Tabuk affiliated to the King Saud University of Riyadh and one in Gizan affiliated to the Jeddah-based King Abdul Aziz University.  These community colleges will expand the base of technical and vocational education and provide the labor market with specialized cadres.   The students will study English, Math, and workshop in a preliminary year prior to either a two-year qualifying course leading to a diploma in electric engineering, industrial management, or computer technology; or a one-year transitional course leading to acceptance in the mother university in Dhahran to study high-level sciences, applied engineering, computer engineering and management of the environment.
