King Fahd receives Iranian foreign minister

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd Ibn Abdul Aziz yesterday received Iranian Foreign Minister Dr. Kamal Kharrazi, who delivered to him a message from Iranian President Muhammad Khatami.   Later, Crown Prince Abdullah Ibn Abdul Aziz, Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the National Guard, also received the Iranian Foreign Minister and his delegation.

Today Dr. Kharrazi met with Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries in addition to Gulf relations and international matters of mutual concern, including the summit meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) scheduled for Tehran in December.  After the meeting, Prince Saud stated that the two countries, considering it to meet the aspirations of the Islamic world and demonstrate the solidarity of Muslims everywhere, will continue their consultations in order to make this conference a success.   As for bilateral relations, Prince Saud said that there is a determination and a political will to normalize relations, declaring that the two countries agree on the importance to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states of good relations with the Islamic state of Iran, and expressing appreciation of the mission of the Iranian Foreign Minister in visiting the GCC states.  Prince Saud went on to say that what hampers regional cooperation is the reckless policies of Israel and not the noble goals of the Islamic world, adding that solidarity among Islamic countries is the way to deter any aggression, and pointing out the importance of strengthening the OIC as the sole mechanism capable of reflecting Islamic cooperation.
