Prince Sultan visits SABIC plants in Jubail

Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz, Second Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector-General, continued his tour of the Eastern Province with a visit yesterday to Jubail, where he laid foundation stones for the Saudi iron and steel company’s latest project, for the Gulf company for the production of metal ingot, and for the expansion project of the Saudi complex for petrochemicals.  The annual productive capacity of the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) currently exceeds 23 million tons, and plans are under way to raise this above 28 million by the year 2000.   There are more than 2,500 productive factories in the Kingdom, and their products not only meet local requirements, but are exported to over 90 countries.

Underscoring the importance of industrial development, Prince Sultan deplored those who view the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with jealous eyes, and stated that as long as we follow the teachings of Islam, we will never be afraid of anything, saying:  “I would like to urge young people to fear Almighty God and to dedicate their efforts for the service of their country.”
