GCC condemns Israeli decision to build new settlement

The General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) today strongly condemned the decision made by the Israeli government to build a new settlement in occupied Jerusalem, stating that this decision poses a serious threat to the on-going peace process in the Middle East and jeopardizes attempts to establish trust. The decision is also a warning of a return to an atmosphere of tension, violence and turmoil. The GCC called on the Israeli government to rescind the ill-advised decision and immediately halt all measures designed to alter the demography of the Holy City of Jerusalem, since such arrangements are in complete violation of all international treaties and agreements including the Oslo Accords as well as the letter of guarantee of the United States.
