Saudi Arabia successful in third round of WTO talks

Minister of Commerce Dr. Osama Ibn Jafar Ibn Ibrahim Faqih announced today the successful conclusion of the third round of negotiations in Geneva on the Kingdom's application to join the World Trade Organization (WTO). The high-level Saudi delegation led by Dr. Faqih met with WTO members to discuss four major issues: agricultural production in Saudi Arabia; the Saudi system for tax evaluation and import licenses for certain products; and the Kingdom's regulations concerning animal and vegetable foodstuffs. A number of countries, including the United States, Kuwait, Bahrain, Canada, Norway, Japan and Australia, have sponsored the Kingdom's application. The fourth round of negotiations will take place in November, 1997.
