Riyadh's population continues to grow

The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs has released statistics showing that the population of the Kingdom's capital city of Riyadh has witnessed remarkable growth, doubling 140 times over the past fifty years, from 20,000 in 1946 to 2.8 million in the 1996 census. The area of the city doubled some 120 times over the same period, from only 8 to almost 1,000 square kilometers. This makes Riyadh one of the fastest-growing cities in the world.
