Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, the Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the National Guard, presided over the weekly regular session of the Council of Ministers on Monday afternoon at Al-Yamama Palace in Riyadh.
At the outset of the session, Information Minister Ali Al-Shaer told the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that the cabinet reviewed the latest and most important political and security developments on Arab and international arenas, with a special focus on the current Palestinian developments in the light of efforts that had been exerted so far to accelerate the Middle East peace process.
Crown Prince Abdullah then inquired about the latest arrangements that have been made by the concerned bodies for the Hajj season and the excellent services and facilities being provided for the pilgrims under the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz.
Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz, the Minister of Interior and chairman of the higher Hajj committee, presented a detailed report to the cabinet on what has been preprred by the state so far and the marvelous achievements realized for providing the most comfortable means to enable the pilgirms to perform their rituals in peace and ease.
For his part, Dr. Mahmoud Safar, Minister of Pilgrimage, explained to the cabinet the nature of his meetings with various Hajj delegations who had come from all over the Islamic world.
Dr Safar assured the cabinet that these delegations had shown their commitment to follow the instructions concerning the Hajj. He commended the unlimited and constant support being extended by King Fahd and Crown Prince Abdullah for anything that could ensure the comfort of pilgrims.
For their part, other concerned ministers also briefed the cabinet on what had already been done so far to realise the noble target. The Minister of Health noted that health arrangements and medical facilities in Makkah, Madinah and other sanctuaries have been completed almost two months in advance of this year's Hajj season.
The cabinet, Minister Al-Shaer said, then reviewed the rest of the items on its agenda and adopted a number of resolutions as follows:
Firstly, the cabinet delegated the Foreign Minister or whoever he might authorize to discuss with the Nigerian side a draft agreement for mutual cooperation covering economic, commercial, investment, scientific and technical spheres, and to initial the agreement. It was decided that a final document should be submitted for completion of legal procedures.
Secondly, it authorized Prince Faisal Bin Fahd, the Chairman of the General Presidency of Youth Welfare to initial an agreement for cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom of Morocco in the area of youth and sports, with amendments to the para (c) of the second article of the agreement. It was decided that a final document should be submitted for completion of legal procedures.
Thirdly, the council approved an appointment to grade 14th at the Cabinet Affairs Court.
