Health Ministry: Saudi blood banks well-supplied

December 5, 2008

The Health Ministry reports that more than 14,000 units of blood and blood derivatives have been made available to hospitals in the western region, enough to meet the potential needs of three to four million Hajj pilgrims.  Director General of the Department of Laboratories and Blood Banks Ibrahim Al-Omran said that numerous facilities in Jeddah and at the Holy Places will be open to conduct medical check-ups and to make blood units available.  He noted that Saudi Arabia no longer imports blood from abroad, relying instead on local donations.
