New Kiswah handed to chief gatekeeper

November 29, 2008

The new Kiswah [covering] for the Holy Ka'aba was handed over to the Chief Saden [servant] of the Holy Mosques Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheibi by General President of the Affairs of the Holy Mosque at Makkah and the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah Sheikh Salih bin Abdelrahman Al-Hussein today.

It is customary that every year a new cover is handed to the Chief Saden to be installed on the Holy Ka’aba on the 9th of Dhu Al-Hajjah.

This year's cover, which is made of pure black silk and decorated in gold thread with verses from the Holy Qu'ran, is estimated at SR 20 million (U.S. $5.3 million).
