Eight Saudi detainees in Iraq returned to the Kingdom

September 21, 2008

Eight Saudi detainees in Iraq have been returned to the Kingdom as part of a joint effort to enhance security cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Iraq, the Ministry of Interior announced today.

Arrangements are currently underway to turn over 16 Iraqi detainees in Saudi Arabia to Iraqi authorities.

In an April 2008 interview with the London-based Asharq Al-Awsat, Iraqi National Security Adviser Muwaffaq Al-Rubaie praised Saudi Arabia’s “ideal” cooperation on counterterrorism and noted that the two countries have a hotline for the exchange of prisoners and information analysis.
